Wegovy is the brand-name version of semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics a gut hormone that slows digestion, regulates appetite, and reduces hunger signals. Used together with reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Wegovy starts at 0.25 mg weekly and titrates over 16+ weeks to a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg weekly. Slow titration helps minimize GI side effects.

STEP trial data: roughly 4% by week 8, 10.6% in the first 20 weeks at the 2.4 mg maintenance dose, and over 17% by week 68 on average. Individual results vary; sustained weight loss requires staying on the medication.
